Why You Should Target First Position in Search Results
While you do SEO for a keyword not just target the first page of search results, instead target the first 3 position. A recent study from Optify shows that top 3 positions in the search results receives 58.4 percent of all click from users. Websites ranked number one received an average click-through rate (CTR) of 36.4 percent; number two had a CTR of 12.5 percent; and number three had a CTR of 9.5 percent. According to Optify being number one in Google is the equivalent of all the traffic going to the sites appearing in the second through fifth positions.
Search Engine Watch has converted this CTR data into a caterpillar-shaped infographic to help you visualize it even better. We can see the enormous advantage of getting number one in search results page.
Pretty good numbers isn’t it? So the next time when you do SEO target the first position (I know it is hard, but still worth trying

good post rojish….i want to aim first page for a lot of keywords and its all about ranking atleast top 10 cuz this is where the traffis is at.

Keep trying Vlad, once you reach the first position you can get a lot of traffic.
Wow the percentage is about 36.4%?? very hard to get 1 st page ranking in SERP .. my blog , huh??? next time will be improve in seo writing..

I think to some extent it can depend on the size and type of your business. If you are getting more enquiries than you can deal with, then being number one is worse than being number two as it takes a lot of time dealing with enquiries which you cannot take on.

Yes, once we reach top 3 positions we can expect attack from spammers for backlinks.

First position in my country is indeed almost impossible, since every part has a big company on top. You’ll need more than 5k backlinks to beat my top, for ex.
